First Responders
& Families
You show up for everyone else every single day. Sheri is passionate about creating a space where first responders and their families can finally be the ones who are held.
Sheri's Approach
You Carry More Than Anyone Should
First responders are asked to witness the worst moments of people's lives — and then go home, be present, and do it all again tomorrow. The weight of that is real, even when the culture around you tells you to push through.
I have a deep respect for the people who run toward what everyone else runs from. And I understand that therapy can feel foreign — even threatening — in a community where strength is everything. My approach is not about pathologizing what you've experienced. It's about giving you a place where you don't have to hold it alone.
Whether you are a firefighter, law enforcement officer, paramedic, EMT, dispatcher, or a family member of someone in that world — you are welcome here, and what you're carrying matters.
What You May Be Facing
The Weight of the Work
Cumulative Trauma
First responders rarely experience a single traumatic event — they accumulate them. Shift after shift, call after call. Over time, even the most resilient person carries more than one person should have to.
Hypervigilance Off the Job
The brain learns to stay ready. That alertness that keeps you safe on the job doesn't turn off at home — and it costs you rest, connection, and peace in ways that are hard to explain to someone who hasn't lived it.
Moral Injury
Sometimes the hardest thing isn't what happened — it's what you couldn't stop. The gap between what you were trained to do and what was possible can leave a wound that goes deeper than PTSD.
The Culture of Silence
Asking for help can feel like weakness in a culture built around strength. The pressure to appear fine — to not be the one who couldn't handle it — keeps so many first responders suffering alone.
Impact on Family
The people at home carry it too. Partners and children absorb the tension, the distance, the unpredictability. Families of first responders deserve support — not just the responders themselves.
Secondary Traumatic Stress
Witnessing others' worst moments changes you. Secondary traumatic stress is real, it is valid, and it deserves the same attention as any other trauma response.
How Sheri Works With You
Care Built Around Your Life
Sheri integrates evidence-based modalities in a way that respects who you are and what you've lived. No scripts. No assumptions. Just honest, skilled, trauma-informed support.
EMDR for Trauma Processing
EMDR is one of the most effective tools available for processing cumulative trauma without having to verbally recount every difficult call. It works with the brain's own healing mechanisms.
DBT Skills for Regulation
Dialectical Behavior Therapy offers concrete, practical tools for managing the emotional intensity that comes with first responder life — on and off the job.
Strengths-Based, Not Pathologizing
Your resilience is real. The goal is never to label you as broken — it is to help you access the strength already inside you, in a way that actually works for your life.
Family Support
Sheri works with first responders and their families. Because healing doesn't happen in isolation, and the people who love you deserve support too.
"It is an honor to hold space for those who hold so much for everyone else."
— Sheri Robenstine, LPC
The Process
What Working with Sheri Looks Like
No Judgment, No Agenda
The first session is about getting to know you — your life, your work, what's been hard, and what you're hoping for. Sheri meets you where you are, not where she thinks you should be.
Building Safety First
Before diving into difficult material, Sheri makes sure you have the internal resources and tools to manage what comes up. Nothing moves faster than your nervous system is ready for.
Processing at Your Pace
Whether through EMDR, DBT skills work, or talk therapy, the approach is shaped around you. You remain in control of what you explore and when.
Life That Feels Like Yours Again
The goal isn't just symptom management — it's helping you come home to yourself. To be present with the people you love. To carry your work without being consumed by it.
Ready to Begin?
